Our Mission: Protecting rural character, supporting responsible land use, and empowering our community to shape the Town of Rochester and greater Roundout Valley’s future.

About Us:

Rural Heritage.

The Town of Rochester Alliance is an informal citizens action group focused on preserving the rural, agricultural, and scenic character of the Town of Rochester and the Rondout Valley. We care deeply about what makes this place feel like home — open land, working farms, quiet roads, and a strong sense of place.

Responsible Growth.

We advocate for responsible land use and planning practices that align with the Town’s Comprehensive Plan and zoning. Growth, when it occurs, should respect the landscape, the history, and the safety of the community.

Community Voice.

We believe residents should feel informed, confident, and empowered to participate in local decision-making. We provide tools, information, and updates so neighbors can engage in the processes that shape Rochester’s future.

Living Landscape.

Water, soil, forests, and wildlife are essential parts of life here. We work to ensure that land-use decisions recognize and protect these interconnected natural systems that support farms, homes, and ecosystems alike.

Road Safety.

Rural roads were not designed for high volumes of traffic or large-scale commercial activity. We advocate for safety, visibility, and infrastructure that protects pedestrians, cyclists, drivers, and first responders.

Shared Future.

Through education, outreach, and collaboration with residents, farmers, local officials, and organizations, we help build a shared understanding of how today’s decisions impact future generations.
